Sometimes, life is hard. Especially if you are playing a supporting role in a Bollywood movie that involves any kind of violence. The directors have to let a few characters go. It's inevitable.
Numerous times, the secondary character has to die either to give life to someone else or make others remember him throughout the movie. He/She usually dies after saying some epic line which the lead character will reminisce at-least once in the movie. His/Her last words, if you may. This can also be sometimes termed as a Heroic Sacrifice.
A death such as this happens for one of the following reasons:

- The character dies early on in the movie, thus ushering a feeling of retribution and revenge in the lead character's assorted feelings box.
- The character dies in the middle of the movie, bringing in a classic twist in the tale. Or further enraging the lead actor to take revenge and retribution. It's like adding dung-cakes to the fire.
- The character dies in the end of the movie, setting an example for the people who are arrive. When this happens, it is most definitely going to be a sacrifice where the person does some minor heroic deed before he/she dies. Like jumping in front of the lead-actor when a bullet is headed his/her way or taking an anti-tank mine in his arms and jumping in front of a tank (Border).
