Supporting Role Character Dies For A Greater Purpose

If you don't know what a TROPE is, pliss to read this: What is a trope?

Sometimes, life is hard. Especially if you are playing a supporting role in a Bollywood movie that involves any kind of violence. The directors have to let a few characters go. It's inevitable.
Numerous times, the secondary character has to die either to give life to someone else or make others remember him throughout the movie. He/She usually dies after saying some epic line which the lead character will reminisce at-least once in the movie. His/Her last words, if you may. This can also be sometimes termed as a Heroic Sacrifice.

A death such as this happens for one of the following reasons:
  • The character dies early on in the movie, thus ushering a feeling of retribution and revenge in the lead character's assorted feelings box.
  • The character dies in the middle of the movie, bringing in a classic twist in the tale. Or further enraging the lead actor to take revenge and retribution. It's like adding dung-cakes to the fire.
  • The character dies in the end of the movie, setting an example for the people who are arrive. When this happens, it is most definitely going to be a sacrifice where the person does some minor heroic deed before he/she dies. Like jumping in front of the lead-actor when a bullet is headed his/her way or taking an anti-tank mine in his arms and jumping in front of a tank (Border).
In the movie Sholay, Jai, who is continuing a gunfight single-handedly, decides to sacrifice himself by using his last bullet to ignite dynamite sticks on a bridge from close range. After Veeru returns, Jai dies in his arms tragically (poor Widow He Fell In Love With), thus enraging Veeru enough to raid Gabbar's den and capture him.
